After “From Here to Anywhere” · Bin Youn · FPT University · 21 October 2026

Start from here.

The talk is over. Here is what to do next, where to aim, and the tools and links from the slides.

This week

Six small moves.

Tick them off as you go. Your ticks and your sentence stay on this device only.

0 of 6 done
  • Today

Follow one artist you saw today, and send them one message

Ask one real question about their work. Every door in my story opened with a person.

  • Today

Follow the five accounts where open calls appear

    @arselectronica · @acmsiggraph · @siggraph_digitalarts · @siggraphasia · @iseainternational. Turn on notifications for one of them.

  • This week

Post one work in progress on Instagram

A sketch, a test, a failed render. Your feed becomes your archive, so when a call asks for documentation, it is already there.

  • This week

Make one photograph open in AR

Follow the five steps below with the Elemental WebAR kit. One afternoon, no app, free.

  • This week

Go to a place you care about. Photograph one object, record one sound

Keep both. You will need them for the 2027 workshop.

  • This month

Read one open call to the end

Pick SIGGRAPH Asia, ISEA or a DAC call. Note what it asks for: format, words, documentation, deadline.

Next year, I’ll be part of

I wrote this sentence in Seoul in May 2025. Write yours, then tell one person.

Your first AR, in one afternoon

A photograph that opens when you look at it.

This is the same A-Frame + MindAR route I used to start. Everything runs in a phone browser and hosts for free.

  1. Choose a photograph

High contrast and lots of detail track best. Avoid plain skies and repeating patterns.

    See example works
  2. Make the target

Upload your image to the MindAR compiler and download the .mind file.

  3. Add your work

Copy the kit, add one entry in config.json, and drop in your target and overlay (video, image or 3D model).

  4. Put it online

Turn on GitHub Pages for your copy. Your work now has a URL.

    GitHub Pages
  5. Print the label

Use the kit’s “qr label” button, print it beside the photograph, and test on two phones.

Stuck on which tool to use? The AR Build Atlas compares every way to build AR: WebAR, no-code platforms, engines, tracking and hardware. Venue tip: self-host your library files, because gallery wifi often blocks CDNs.

Where to aim

The big three, and easy ways in.

Go first, even as an observer. Then set the goal to be part of it the next year.

SIGGRAPH Asia 2026 · Kuala Lumpur

1–4 Dec 2026

The Asian edition of SIGGRAPH, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre: the first in Malaysia and the closest to us. Art Gallery, Art Papers, Emerging Technologies and student volunteering.

ISEA 2026 · Dubai

6–15 Nov 2026

The International Symposium on Electronic Art, in a new city every year, with an online component this year. Artworks, papers, panels, artist talks and workshops.

SIGGRAPH · North America

Every summer

The big computer graphics and interactive techniques conference, with an Art Gallery and Art Papers. 2026 was in Los Angeles, 19–23 July.

SIGGRAPH Digital Arts Community

All year, online

Online exhibitions, open calls and Sparks talks. The easiest first step: no travel needed. This is how I got into SIGGRAPH.

Ars Electronica · Linz, Austria

Every September

A festival since 1979, the Prix Ars Electronica, and the Ars Electronica Center. 2026 ran 9–13 September across Linz.

Archives to study

Free

See what got accepted before you apply: past artworks, papers and talks from ISEA and SIGGRAPH.

Always check the call itself. Categories, fees and deadlines change every year. Look for student volunteer programmes and student rates.

Apply and build

What a jury needs, and the tools I use.

Build your portfolio as you go, so applying is mostly collecting what you already have.

An AR application kit

  • A live link. It runs in the browser with no app, so a juror can try it in seconds.
  • A short documentation video. Real people using the work in a real space, under two minutes.
  • Code and a citable record. Your repository on GitHub, and a DOI from a service like figshare or Zenodo.
  • The words. A short statement, a bio, and what the work needs to run (space, devices, wifi, sound).
  • Your archive. Process posts on Instagram, so you never start from zero.

Tools from the talk

Open these on your phone.

Use a phone with a camera, and allow camera access when the page asks.

Next year · a field workshop with you

Embodied Alienation

Bring one image and one sound from a place that holds you. Through AR, they become a creature that is both from there and strange to it. No coding needed. Sign-up opens in 2027; follow @o.binyoun.o so you don’t miss it.

  • Notice places that matter to you
  • Record sounds on your phone, 30 seconds each
  • Photograph small objects from every side
  • Bring a phone, a laptop and headphones
